Secondary Principals’ Meeting Minutes
November 20, 2001
·
NovaNet presentation by James Mattson(NCS Learn) and
Mary Wildermuth from Muscatine High School.
The options of the system related to remediation, credit recovery, and
credit acquisiton for a variety of audiences was outlined. Mary invited those interested to come to
Muscatine to see the program in action.
·
Sue Reading and Chris Boyum discussed the student
ID/lanyard issue. The principals want
to make wearing the identification positive (ie entrance into dances, athletic
events at a reduced rate) rather than assigning detentions for those not
wearing. Lanyardswill be given to those
students with ID’s at no cost , replacements will be at a fee. Sue will call a meeting early in second
semester so that plans for next year can be developed and shared with parents
and students yet this spring.
·
I.V. raised possible HR issues related to NovaNet. We need to consider this topic as we explore
possible alternative curriculum options for students.
·
Dave and Mike introduced the idea of building level
cost reductions for next years’s budget.
·
Mike B. addressed the on-line attendance concerns. Teachers really like the system when it’s
working. Speed had been a problem, but appears to be improved at this
time due to some technical adjustments to the system. A reminder to staff not to download movies or other media will be
reissued.
·
Dawn explained the concept of “Operation Stay in
School” related to changes in the freshmen program. She talked about an
expanded orientation program, science, advisory, and other ideas. She invited Ken and Pete to be involved in
the process.
