K-12 Science Point of Contact- Names Due May 31st!

===================================

Information regarding the Science POC is now available online at http://curriculum.risd41.org/committee/science/subcommittee/Point_of_contact.doc .  All principals are asked to download, print and distribute this flyer to all staff during a staff meeting (with appropriate discussion) within the next week. The application procedure is simple:

How can I apply for this position?

Ø    Submit a BRIEF (couple of paragraphs) letter of intent to the building principal including:

o            Why are you interested in serving as the building science POC?

o    What skills or strengths would make you good at this position?

Ø            Buildings will have one designated representative (POC), with the flexibility to structure a team within the building to assist the designated person.

Ø    All applications are due to the building principal by Friday, May 31st.

As discussed at yesterday's principal meeting, we would like to have at least one person from each school serve as the building's science Point of Contact.  It would be good to talk first with the people in your building who are currently serving on the science curriculum review committee. If more than one application is received from teachers, it is up to the building principal to make the final selection(s).  Please contact me if you have any questions.

School Improvement Planning Update!

===================================

As discussed at yesterday's principal meeting, the new SIP template format should be adhered to by September 30th, 2003 (one year from this coming September). This should provide ample time to become familiar with the format and receive any training necessary.  We will be planning work sessions to assist building leadership teams in utilizing the new template.  These dates will be announced in early Fall.  In addition, time will be devoted during next year's Leadership meetings to continue moving forward with the template.  Sample Lincoln applications are also available on our site (http://curriculum.risd41.org/admin/school_improvement/school_improvement.htm) to assist with the completion of your schools SIP (or to at least view some examples).

Also, I would like to speak with those schools that are beginning to use the new format.  Eventually, we will post all school SIP's to our website.  In the meantime, I would like to use a few school SIP's to serve as examples for other buildings.  Please let me know if you would be willing to share your SIP with others.  Contact me if I can be of assistance in any way.  I would be happy to meet with your building leadership teams as needed.
