Staff Development Funds For Next Year- Update

===================================

This past school year, each building received $2000 for professional development/school improvement activities.  Due to budget cuts, next year's allotment will include only $1000 per school.  This funding should be used to support identified professional development activities as stated in your school improvement plan.  Please use the same process as this past year for accessing these funds.  This process is outlined at http://curriculum.risd41.org/admin/professional_development.htm .  After July 1st, I will transfer $1000 into each school's professional development account for your usage.

School Improvement Planning- Update

===================================

There will be a few revisions made to the SIP template to accommodate the changes called for in the No Child Left Behind act.  Changes will be in the areas of; Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP), staff development plan/needs assessment and reporting of academic achievement by sub group.  A reminder that during this school year, schools should begin using the new template as much as possible.  At the beginning of next school year (September 2003, a year from now), it is expected that all schools will submit their school improvement plan using the new format.  We will be designating several leadership meeting as "working meetings" to address each section of the new SIP.  In addition, several after school workshops will be offered for building school improvement teams to learn more about each section of the SIP.  This schedule will be published in early August.

Recently added to the site are draft examples of figuring AYP and the projected targets required by NCLB- check out the updates at http://curriculum.risd41.org/admin/school_improvement/school_improvement.htm
